We’re getting into warm-weather dressing season, which is my favorite! But apparently I’m in the minority here, because most people I talk to don’t like dressing for warm-weather. The main reason cited is because you can’t layer, so it’s hard to make an interesting outfit.
I watched this Caroline Winkler video on YouTube the other day (love her, you should definitely follow her). In it, she posed the question:
This time is not the time I wanted, it’s not the time I would have chosen, but what is it good for?
I mean, it’s an epic life-reframing question. But it’s also a pretty great fashion-reframing question.
Because maybe warm weather is a good time to just lay back and enjoy the simplicity of a less interesting outfit. There’s less pressure to make a complex and layered outfit. It’s quicker to get dressed in the mornings. Since you’re wearing less, you might spend less on clothes. All good things!
What do you think? Are you a fan of warm-weather dressing or not so much? If you’re not, could you think of one or two things it could be good for? I’d love to hear!
P.S. For the record, I actually do think there are lots of ways to make an interesting outfit in the heat. Contrasting proportions, for one — like here, I’m doing big on top, small on bottom. Texture is another way to add interest — see: amazing woven rope bag. 🙂
