One of Taylor Swift‘s friends made a damning confession about the singer’s relationship with Matty Healy. In case you don’t remember, the Midnights singer had a short fling with The 1975 vocalist, and she went in on him on her album The Tortured Poets Department.
A song that was speculated to be about Healy was the titular track. In it, she sings about the tumultuous breakup and name-drops some of her famous friends. “Sometimes I wonder if you’re gonna screw this up with me/ But you told Lucy you’d kill yourself if I ever leave/ And I had said that to Jack about you, so I felt seen/ Everyone we know understands why it’s meant to be,” she sings. Jack was confirmed to be Swift’s longtime producer Jack Antonoff, but there was a question about who Lucy could actually be.
In a new interview with People, Lucy Dacus confirmed that she was indeed the Lucy in question. “I think it’s fair game to say ‘yes,’” she responded to the question if Swift got approval beforehand. “She actually texted me and asked for my approval.”
“Well, I pushed play on the album just like, ‘Oh, this is so crazy,’” Dacus recalled about hearing the track for the first time. “This is the first Taylor record to come out since meeting her, and listening to a friend’s record feels so much different than a stranger’s record.”So I was like, ‘This is really weird. This voice that I’ve heard basically what feels like my whole waking life saying my name.’”
“It was definitely an experience,” said Dacus. “I sat down and I was like, ‘Huh. Wow.’ But I think that that record of hers is super open-hearted, and I don’t know how many people at her level, if anyone is at her level, are writing from the heart that openly.”
Lucy Dacus, who is one-third of the super group Boygenius, performed with her bandmates on the opening slot during the Eras tour. During one of the performances, the group had Matty Healy join them on the guitar. Shortly after, Healy roped Dacus into one of his Twitter rants. “I told Lucy Dacus that Boygenius had inspired me and George to start a new band called ‘Girlr—–d’. I don’t hear from her that often,” Healy wrote on X at the time, according to a Reddit thread.
Dacus replied by “You don’t hear from me at all,” reportedly prompting Healy to delete his X account. In an article published by People, an insider described Swift and Healy’s relationship as “always casual”, saying: “She had fun with him, but it was always casual. They are no longer romantically involved.” Another source echoed those sentiments to Us: “Taylor and Matt are no longer romantically involved,” they said.
As a perfect rebound for the Lover singer, Taylor Swift moved on to Travis Kelce. The two have dated for two years, and there’s been a lot of chatter about engagement rumors after the two were spotted househunting in Montana.
