Comedian, writer, and actor Guy Branum is taking his latest standup show, Be Fruitful, on the road. The tour kicks off May 6th in Chicago, with stops across the country (full list below) and promises new material on everything from body politics and identity to pop culture and personal history.
So, what is Be Fruitful about? “A middle-aged, clinically obese homosexual confronts science and God to determine if there’s any actual purpose to his existence.” Heady stuff, but if you’ve seen any of the clips from the show that Guy posted online, you know it’ll be good. “It’s a dazzling journey through religion and science to determine the meaning of life, and there are lots of jokes,” is how he summed it up on Instagram. Count us in (literally – we’ll be at the Portland, Oregon show). Get tickets here.

If you’re familiar with Guy’s work, you know this isn’t the first time he’s taken on fatphobia and the concept of masculinity. He’s the author of the memoir My Life as a Goddess, a sharp, funny, and moving collection of personal essays and cultural critique that explores his experiences growing up gay and fat in a world that often failed to make room for either.
