Aquarius and Pisces are the wrap-up signs of the Zodiac, and similarly far-out and unusual. To understand their natures, you must understand that both are engaged in transpersonal energies bigger than themselves.
Some are absorbed in the dreams and visions of the human family. They might do this as visionaries, artists, stylists or proprietors. They both bring a touch of the elevated or enchanted to their surroundings.
This makes them simpatico, as they sense a similarly tuned-in outlook. Both are not so impressed by the usual worldly markers of success. They are plugged into a different kind of spiritual GPS. Both want to contribute to the healing and evolution of all life. And this is where they find common ground.
Mind and Heart
Aquarius and Pisces are peers on the Zodiac, but different rhythms and elements mean there can be clashes. Aquarius is an air sign, and notorious for being coolly detached. Pisces is a water sign, and very impressionable. One cold look from the water bearer in full winter chill mode, makes the sensitive Pisces go into hiding, or swim away.
Conversely, Pisces can make Aquarius feel, emotionality, like a fish out of water. The water bearer’s mediums are currents (ideas) and vibes, and not subjective feelings. Though they may not be in their element, these differences can be overcome with an open heart.
Aquarians are friendly in a universal, detached way, covering a lot of ground socially. The Pisces nature is sensitive and geared toward smaller, more intimate circles of friends. Aquarius tends to choose buzzing, bustling places for dates, while Pisces is drawn to more atmospheric environs.
Aquarius craves social engagement, which translates to meeting lots of people, while Pisces is easily overwhelmed by crowds and prefers a more intimate meeting place. A quaint cafe that’s situated for people watching makes for a good compromise. Both signs appreciate the unique and prefer one-of-a-kind establishments over chains.
Each person is a universe of emotions, impressions, ideas, and Pisces is eager to plunge in. The impersonal vibe of Aquarius is foreign to the empathic Pisces, who craves real heart-to-hearts with loved ones. Aquarius is alarmed by the urge to merge of Pisces, finding it a threat to their sense of personal freedom. The water bearer might not know how to relate to the Pisces feelers. And yet, Pisces intuits this and finds ways to bridge the gap.
Pisces is a creative type whose medium is often symbolic images of the imagination, while Aquarius tends toward logic and conceptual thinking. Both love the freedom to experiment, but Pisces tends to follow the inspiration of the heart, while Aquarius is stirred by the mind.
Aquarius deals directly with universal themes, while Pisces finds a doorway to the universal through the personal. In some cases, they’re literally on different wavelengths.
Pisces is sentimental and affectionate, while Aquarians prefer everyone to respect their personal bubble. Pisces will long to feel a deep bond with Aquarius, which often remains out of reach. Aquarius will champion the creative dreams, stirring within the Pisces soul, and they’ll show integrity in the relationship. However, it likely won’t satisfy Pisces longing for love.
Aquarius is a bit of a loner among the multitudes and may be out and about when Pisces craves companionship. And yet, Pisces is the ultimate recluse. There are paradoxes in this pairing, and much will depend on a sense of timing—are they ready to meet each other halfway?
A mark of Aquarius’ uniqueness is the tendency to stray onto a tangent. But Pisces won’t always understand the water bearer’s aloofness, and this can be stifling for Aquarius. Both need plenty of space to grow in unexpected directions.
With the willingness to deal openly with all these differences, it could evolve into a nurturing bond.
Upside: accepting; creative genii; avant-garde; original style.
Downside: intellect vs. emotion; escape artists; secretive; elusive; reluctant to commit.
Quality and Element: Fixed Air and Mutable Fire
Beloved astrologer Linda Goodman (an Aries) wrote of the Pisces-Aquarius love connection in her book of poetry, Venus Trines Midnight.
The Fish Meets the Water Bearer
We searched for each other
in the most unlikely places,
among the most unlikely people,
And when our paths finally crossed,
it was for reasons so entangled
in our daily bread,
and the usual trespasses
That we might not even have noticed,
except for that faint quiver
like a passing chill
from the night air
And the closest we’ve come, to explaining why,
Is Because it was you,
and because it was I.
