Kate Middleton wears outdoorsy outfit for secret Lake District meeting with the Scouts

The Princess of Wales talked to the Scouts about nature, mental health and resilience during a visit to Lake Windermere last month

Kensington Palace shared a new short film featuring the Princess of Wales this evening.

The two-minute video shows Kate on a walk near the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District, where she met with a group of Scouts working towards their Naturalist Badge.

The visit, which took place last month, saw the Princess join Chief Scout Dwayne Fields for a chat about the power of nature in supporting wellbeing, connection, and confidence, particularly in young people.

Kate spent time with Scouts aged between 10 and 15 from groups in Cumbria and Greater Manchester.

In the video, Kate describes her own relationship with nature as “very spiritual”.

She speaks of an “intense emotional reconnection” when spending time outdoors. “Not everyone has that same relationship perhaps with nature,” she says, “but it is so therefore meaningful for me as a place to balance and find a sort of sense of peace and reconnection in what is otherwise a very busy world.”

Kate spoke with Dwayne how spending time in nature can help young people develop vital life skills — from resilience and leadership to empathy and teamwork. “They learn leadership skills, spend time making friends, and those life-long really great memories that we all hold onto,” Dwayne says in the film. “And I think if we can do that, we’ll build up a generation who is passionate about our natural spaces and passionate about protecting them as well.”

The Scouts regularly enable more than 450,000 young people to experience the benefits of outdoor adventure.

Activities like camping, canoeing and climbing help build confidence and provide a break from the digital world.

The Princess has been Joint President of the Scouts since 2020. The visit marked her first engagement with Dwayne Fields, who took over the Chief Scout role from Bear Grylls in September 2024.

I know many of you will be interested in Kate’s casual, outdoorsy outfit—this type of outfit is always very popular with my readers. So, let’s take a look:

    Kate’s Outfit

For her visit to the Lake District, the Princess dressed for the outdoors in pieces from some of her favourite countrywear brands.

The olive green bomber jacket is by Bella Hoskyns. It’s the jacket she wore in the now-infamous Mother’s Day photo shared last year.

The £385 olive green jacket is windproof, weather resistant, lightweight and easy to wear.  It features a Nehru collar and a hidden zip.  It is quilted inside and features ribbed cuffs.

Underneath, the Princess layered a chunky knit roll-neck sweater by Emilia Wickstead. The piece is new (to us, Kate might have worn it numerous times!). Thank you very much to Danielle, via Middleton Maven for the ID.

It’s the designer’s ‘Otis Melange Cashfeel Cable Knit Sweater‘ in the colour ‘sand.’ The piece retails for £610. It’s knitted from a super soft cashmere feel yarn and features an elaborate cable knit design, plus a ribbed detail through the neck and sleeves.

Kate paired the sweater and jacket with her G-Star Raw skinny cargo pants in khaki.

The Princess debuted the trousers during a visit to Belize in 2022, and wore them again during an engagement with the Irish Guards in 2023.

The trousers feature a high waistline and a skinny fit on the leg, plus they are cleverly designed with a shaped waistband to eliminate gaps. They’re finished with deep pockets on the thigh, as well as additional inset front pockets and a single zipper pocket at the backside.

The pants are made from G-Star Raw’s Bracket Superstretch Twill, a stretch woven fabric that offers added ease of movement. It’s a cotton-elastane mix, which makes it comfortable and stretchy.

G-Star Raw are dedicated to sustainable manufacturing and reducing their environmental impact, which probably draws the Princess to the brand. In recent years, we’ve noticed Kate gravitate towards slow fashion brands. Today, a lot of her pieces are from environmentally conscious companies and collections.

I like G-Star Raw’s commitment to transparency and accountability. They openly provide the names and locations of the factories that manufacture their products. G-Star Raw commits to paying their workers fairly throughout the supply chain, ensuring their workers work in a safe environment and healthy conditions, while protecting their human rights. I think it’s fantastic that Kate uses her influence as a fashion icon to support companies with good ethical practices.

G-Star still stock the cargo skinny trousers today, in multiple sizes, colours and lengths.  (Including the style worn by the Princess). They’re currently 50% off too. See them here.

Kate also owns the trousers in ‘raven’ grey-black.

On her feet, it looks like the Princess wore her Berghaus Supalite II GTX boots – a staple in her casual wardrobe for outdoor engagements. She wore them on six prior public engagements between 2019 and 2023.

The boots are made from a single piece of soft yet strong water-resistant leather.  They’re designed to be lightweight and comfortable, and treated with GORE-TEX performance technology to keep water out of the shoe. They also feature a steady tread and outsole, plus a breathable, cushioned memory foam footbed. Berghaus described the boots are perfect for everything from coastal walks to hill hikes.

At the time of writing, the boots are unavailable on Berghaus’s website, but they do say more stock will be available soon.

Kate finished her look with a touch of traditional countryside flair, adding her Really Wild Clothing ‘Lindsey’ flat cap in Tweed Moss Fleck.

Interesting fact: the Princess debuted the green wool hat at an event with the scouts twelve years ago!
