Gather ’round, hear the tale of my dreamy day in Edinburgh

Something fun before we jump into the post: I posted my Scotland packing video! First YouTube video in seven years! And there’s a printable packing planner to go with it. Hope you enjoy it. 🙂

The days grew unexpectedly gloomy and cold last week, but I wasn’t mad at all — it meant that I got to pull out my vintage leather jacket, and prove to myself that it wasn’t a dream, it did indeed happen.

Allow me to tell you the nice little story.

While I was in Edinburgh last month, I was walking back to my AirBnb, when I happened upon a vintage clothing shop by the name of Fifth Season Vintage. I had no idea what a treat I was in for, but as I walked through the door and caught a glimpse of the funky orange and maroon painted ceiling, I began realizing I was someplace special.

It truly was a magical place — the kind-hearted people, the cared-for clothes, the artist-loft vibe.

About 2 seconds in, this gem of a leather jacket practically jumped into my arms and begged me to take it home. It was fully lined with this plush cozy sherpa, it fit flawlessly, and it was even on sale.

    But.

There was absolutely no way I could get it home. No room in my carry-on. And no chance I was going to pay $100 to check a bag on the plane.

So I headed out of the shop empty handed. But I carried a cozy feeling with me — happy that this shop exists, happy that these clothes exist for someone.

The next day, I couldn’t help myself. I popped back in the shop to see if perhaps I could find something small that I *could* fit in my suitcase.

I ended up finding the COOLEST skirt that spoke to me deeply — and you’re just going to have to wait to see because I have no idea how to style it yet (lol). But I will give you a hint — the gal in the shop called it French 90s rave.

As I’m checking out, she says, “Here, take a card with you — you can shop us online, we ship to the US a lot anyway.”

We chatted a little more, and then I headed out the door to the tune of the tinkling shop bell, happily daydreaming about moving to Edinburgh and working there.

It took a full minute for it to hit me, but when it did, I did an about-face turn in the middle of the sidewalk.

Sixty seconds later, I was back in the shop. “Did you say you ship to the US?”

And before you could say Royal Mail, I’d bought the jacket and they were packaging it up for me.

I fully expected I would not get to wear this jacket until November — it’s already too warm in Texas. But then we got this surprise of a cold front, and you know I cozied up in my jacket, happy for the memory of that day in Edinburgh. <3
