Being ignored is certainly the worst, most confusing and painful feeling in the whole world. This leaves very bad effects on our mental health which are even more intense if it comes from our loved ones.
The truth is that as human beings we are all social creatures and we all just yearn for that feeling of being accepted. We all want to belong to someone, to be part of a group or a gang.
We all want to have this small circle of people who accept us for who we really are. We all want to have that small number of people who will simply catch us.
However, that doesn’t mean we have to change who we are just to be part of someone’s gang. You should never change your identity to match someone’s standards or some silly rules demanded by a particular social situation.
This is how you will only lose what should be most sacred to each of us; yourself. At the end of the day, that’s the only thing that should be important … Being able to love, kiss, respect and accept yourself, no matter what other people think of you.
What does it mean to be ignored?
When your loved one ignores you or completely excludes you from their life and for no good reason, it hurts as if they are tearing your heart apart piece by piece and then stepping on it.
He really has the power to manipulate you into thinking and behaving in a way that you would never normally do. Your opinion of yourself changes and you just start to wonder if maybe you are the problem.
You start to think that maybe you are too clingy and needy, and that’s what made the other person behave that way towards you. It damages your self-image completely and makes you doubt on yourself.
I know that ostracism and the feeling of being excluded hurts more than anything else. But I also know that nothing is worth losing the self-esteem or the faith you should always have in yourself.
Also, ignoring people is a trait of narcissists and soulless human beings who are not able to maintain a healthy relationship. Let go of it just because that’s what it says about them, and the way you react to their silent treatment will say it about you.

What being ignored does to a person
The point is, the silent treatment is detrimental to our overall well-being. It causes negative feelings and leaves such bad consequences on our emotional and mental health.
It can completely ruin a person’s self-esteem. It can also lead to a condition called pistanthrophobia (the fear of trusting people), which will make it impossible for a person to maintain any type of emotional bond or relationship.
Here are some of the consequences that ostracism can have on a person’s health. Take a deep breath and pay close attention to each one.
1. Your self-esteem will be shaken
The feeling of being ignored hurts us all deeply, and it is a fact. Whether it’s from your best friend, family member, or coworker has absolutely nothing to do with it because it always hurts.
Silent processing can also be quite confusing, and you will likely be looking for answers. This chase can lead you to the conclusion that maybe you are the problem, which is, by the way, the worst thing you can come to in this situation.
Then you will start to question your self-esteem and self-esteem. With such mistaken conclusions and thoughts, you will slowly begin to kill yourself both emotionally and mentally.
This social pain you are feeling may also start to challenge your own social skills, and this will slowly affect the relationship you have with yourself and everyone else in your life.
2. The biggest threat to mental health.
Being ignored by a loved one is a huge threat to your emotional and mental health. This can leave so many negative consequences that you will not be able to resolve for years, and some of them may even be permanent.
As I said before, your self-esteem will suffer for sure. Your social pain will hurt your mental health even more than you realize.
Quiet treatment can also have a big impact on your day-to-day life and the way you connect with others. It will leave you with a lot of insecurities and self-doubts that will make it really difficult for you to maintain a healthy relationship with another person.
3. It increases stress levels …
When you feel left out or ignored by a loved one, negative feelings start to show up. You are overwhelmed by so many confusing negative emotions and it starts to affect your daily life.
When your stress level rises, your body responds to anxiety and depression. You simply feel unable to concentrate and unmotivated to accomplish your daily tasks and obligations.
Due to this anxiety, depression, or similar mental health disorder, you will not be able to sleep well. Sleep deprivation can lead to physical pain, and all of this will certainly have very bad consequences on your physical health.
4. … Which leads to more negative emotions
There is very strong link between stress and anger. Most people who suffer from stress and go through stressful situations become angry, frustrated, and very hostile.
It’s just something that most of us cannot affect because we are unable to think clearly when we are under some kind of stress. Our stressors keep building up to the point that we are no longer able to deal with them, and we simply respond with an emotional outburst.
This is also further evidence of how the silent treatment negatively affects our mental health. Our self-esteem is under attack from these frequent outbursts and, in most cases, emotional liability results.
